Offering a personalized touch for your wilderness experience

The goal of Maine Guiding is to offer a limited number of quality trips; to share, teach and meet the needs and wants of people in an enjoyable, comfortable and safe environment.

Maine Guiding originated in the mid 1990’s after Dan acquired sled dogs. He enjoyed the experience of dog sledding and wanted to share it with others while hoping to gain an income to offset some of the expense of 20 or so dogs. After obtaining his Maine Guide license, Dan decided to take his canoeing and camping enjoyment and experience to others also. Following a number of years sub-contracting for other outfitters, Dan is now running his own trips after investing in gear and additional outdoor equipment.

Dan believes he can offer better trips by being in charge of the entire process, from what is offered to setting up, preparation and running the trips himself.

Maine canoe trip participantsDan has lead trips with clients from the ages of 3 to 83 and with persons with no skills with, river, wilderness or camping to professional paddlers and guides. He takes pride in taking the time and considerations necessary to make the decisions to give high quality, enjoyable canoe trips for any individual, family or group.

Dan Pelletier is the sole proprietor of MaineGuiding. You will be arranging, planning and talking about the trip beforehand with Dan himself. There is no wondering who will be the guide or what the skills or experience of your guide will be. It is presented for you professionally and will be what is said.

The philosophy of Maine Guiding is simply to “guide” and not lead as a boss or drill sergeant... in essence, teaching and sharing experience and knowledge in an enjoyable fashion that suits the individual or group's needs and wants in the best way possible.
